Kerala is a renowned travel and tourism destination with so many appealing attractions to see and visit. But the most striking features of the state are its green cover which has help to thrive exotic South wildlife sanctuaries. The state is well known for its wildlife tourism as there are many sanctuaries where wildlife lovers can go for elephant safari, jeep safari as well as trekking and tour inside the forest to catch the view of the rich flora and fauna. Some of the renowned wildlife park and sanctuary of Kerala are highlighted as below.

Periyar National Park 
 Periyar National Park also known by the name Thekkady Wildlife Sanctuary is a renowned wildlife sanctuary set in the protected area of districts of Idduki. The park is located at a distance of 4 kms from Kumily. The park is covered with evergreen and semi evergreen rain forests and is rich in flora and fauna. Insects, reptiles, birds, amphibians, fish and wildlife animals have made Periyar their home and visitors can enjoy the lovely view of these inhabitants of the sanctuary as they go for wildlife safari or jeep safari inside the park. Periyar is mostly known for Tiger Reserve and Elephant reserve, but apart from these, there are various other animals and birds one can spot here.

Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary 
Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary is the second largest sanctuary in the state of Kerala. It lies on the way from Mysore to Sultan Batter and has large occupants of endangered animals and birds. Tourists on their visit to the sanctuary get an opportunity to see various species of animals that include Indian Bison, Elephant, Deer, Tiger, panthers. Monkeys, wild dogs, monitor lizards, etc. Avian Fauna include babblers, cuckoos, woodpeckers and peacock.

Idduki Wildlife Sanctuary 
Idduki Sanctuary came into existence in the year 1976 and covers an area of 105.364 sq.km. It is located in the rain shadow area and is home to the endangered Giant Grizzled Squirrel in India. The sanctuary is known for its natural splendor, rocky patches and undulated terrain. The sanctuary is home to various species of animals and birds and to name few that are commonly seen inside the sanctuary are Elephants, bisons, wild dogs, wild boar and avian fauna include Malabar Grey Hornbill, grey jungle fowl, flycatchers, etc.

Beside these, there are few other important National Wildlife Parks and Sanctuaries in Kerala. To add to the list are Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary, Aaralam Wildlife Sanctuary, Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary, Peechi Vaazhaani Wildlife Sanctuary, Thattekkad Bird Sanctuary, Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary, Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary, etc.
